Marci Barton Obituary

Marci Barton

Marcella "Marci" Louise Jones Barton passed away at her home in Machias, WA, February 21, 2011.
She was born December 19, 1957 to Howell W. "Bill" Jones and Patricia Jarnigan Jones.
Marci felt great joy from opening her heart and home to all. She gave endlessly of her time and love, acting as a true matriarch to all in need. Taking care of every detail, she truly was the "Camp Director" holding her extended family together. She will be missed greatly by all whose lives she touched.
Marci also enjoyed time with family at the casino and felt a special bond with her mother there. She loved Butterfinger bars and was rarely seen without a diet Pepsi. She often donated blood and was a proud organ donor.
Marci is survived by her husband of 25 years, Kenneth Allen Barton. Together they raised five children, Travis (wife, Tracie), Trent Barton, Tana Wheatley (husband, Alex), Kenny and Ashley Barton. She is also survived by her father, Bill; siblings, Tom Jones (wife, Becky), Jani Jones Abe (husband, Bob), and Brad Jones (wife, Bea); as well as her four grandchildren, Tyson, Ryan, Emily and Owen, who were a highlight of her life.
Marci was a second mother and very special aunt to her nieces and nephews. She was always the go to person when her family needed someone to care for their kids. She will be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews, Jennifer Whitehead, Nora Feet, William Jones, Brian May, Debbie Shearer, Kim-Abe Gunter, Alisha Jones, Colby Jones and Reese Jones. Great-nieces, Erin Whitehead and Kayla Clifton; great-nephews, Ben Whitehead, and Jaron Feet, were also loved by her beyond words.
She was especially close to her extended family of cousins, The Zabells, of Snohomish, Koetje's, of Stanwood, Houck family, of Oregon, Tim Crowley and Patty Houck, of California, Roxanne Honcoop, of Oregon, David Jarnigan, of Marysville and Pam Jarnigan, of Edmonds. Her aunts Myrna (husband, Bill) Lucas and family and Audrey Kellerman and family were a great part of her life. She is gone too soon.
Marci was predeceased by her mother, Patricia; and infant son, Randy Michael Barton.
Marci lived her entire life in Snohomish, graduating from Snohomish High in 1976 and spent 32 years working for GTE/Verizon before retiring in May, 2010.
Friends and family are invited to make donations to Uncompensated Care at Seattle Children's Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 26, at First Presbyterian Church of Snohomish, 1306 Lake View Ave., Snohomish, WA.

My earliest memory of Marci goes back to when she was a small child and I was the babysitter for Marci, Jani, Tom, and Brad. I considered Marci's Mom, Pat, a dear friend, and evidently Marcie grew up to be very much like her Mom. My heartfelt condolences to her dad, Bill, her brothers and sister, and to all her family members. Hugs to all of you,

March 2, 2011

Marci's mother, Pat Jarnigan, was president of our Senior Class, Snohomish High Class of 1950, and she was a wonderful and vibrant girl. Pat married Bill Jones, and although I did not get to know their children, Pat obviously gave her children a zest of life that was and is outstanding. In fact, when I first saw Marci's picture accompanying this Guest Book, I was struck by how much Marci looked like her wonderful mother. After reading all the praises to Marci in the Guest Book, I also realize that Marci must have been just as delightful and dependable as her mother was! Clearly, Marci captured the love of all who met her and worked with her. Both of these ladies, Mom and Daughter, left our lives much too soon.

To My Sister:

You're gone to soon. Left me before our plans were done. So suddenly, so silent ,without warning, so unlike your life. My life has been changed forever. No one to plan with no one to listen to me, no one to plan family gathering or vacation trips withs....just me now to carry those things on with you. It is so hard my heart is broken forever, the huge hole I may never fill. I will keep my promise to you and watch over your children, be there for them whatever it takes. You raised them to be kind and considerate kids, and it shows.
I can not say goodbye..that would be too final, so until we meet again, squeeze my momma's neck for me and know that you were the best sister ever...but mostly my best friend. I will love you forever Marci

Your loviong Sister

February 25, 2011

Ken , Kenny , Ashley and the entire Barton/Jones families and friends. Please accept my deepest sympathy for Marci’s passing. May you hold your memories close for such an outstanding Lady.
I had the fortunate opportunity to work first with Brad for several years in the field forces at GTE /Verizon and later with Marci in the office towards the end of her carrier. Marci had an amazing ability to keep everyone focused and on task, moving from cube to cube and constantly on the phone. Often I wondered who really was in charge. Since she retired I miss her open ears to listen to the frustrations of the daily grind and I remind myself of her normal response “so how’s that working for you buddy”. Much like people have mentioned, Marci was our Mother at work. Always making a point of recognizing everyone’s birthday (loved the home made pineapple upside down cake). We would also spend our break time sharing the challenges of raising teenage children and solving World, Country and Company problems.
I will miss her terribly but will always hold her close to my heart.
Marci save me a piece of your butterfinger and we will someday toast with an ice cold diet pepsi.

The Family and Friends of Marci -

It was with total shock I heard of Marci's passing. You could have blown me over with a feather! She was FAR to young to have left us!!

I worked with Marci at GTE/Verizon for many decades. She was just a peach of a woman. ALWAYS helpful, kind, and friendly. We always had a good laugh :) She was a really hard worker, too. I don't know how she got done all the things required of her. The world seems to be a smaller place with her gone. I was SO happy for her when she retired. I'm sorry she didn't have a lot of time to enjoy her new-found freedom.

I will miss just knowing she's not in this world. I keep you all in my prayers that the good Lord comfort you and give you peace. She will always be in our hearts, tho I sure wish she was around to give me a good hug!

How very sad and such a tremendous loss. I got to know Marci the last couple years of my GTE/Verizon career when her work group moved next to the Branch in the G.O. I was so impressed with her work ethics and her "can do" attitude. And I will miss not seeing her on Wetmore Ave in Evrt during the 4th of July parade. "Marcella Rockefella", You've left us too soon!Marc and I worked many years together at GTE/Verizon. I've worked with most of her immediate family and my love, thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Marci and I ,along with the rest of the "line" had so much fun together, and she was the one who "instigated" most of the giggles. She was a dear friend, with a great sense of humor, loyalty, and kindness. She was always so devoted to her family and I know she is with "Mumsy" now, watching over all of them. May the Good Lord help you through the days ahead, and take comfort in knowing she will always be with you in your hearts.

You're in my thought and prayers,

She has been a great friend to me!!!! She was so proud of her family, the last time I saw her was at the credit union, and she showed me the most recent pictures of her "grandbabies", she was so happy!!! To the Jones/Barton families, I was so sad to hear that Marci had passed. I met Marci in 7th grade. She was a "Machias" girl and I was "Central Girl". We became instant friends. Her bubbly happy personality made you just want to be around her. I have not seen her since our last visit at Safeway. Seems that is where we got most of our reminiscing done. I will miss those visits. I found this quote that I believe is fitting. I can hear Marci saying this. "because I don't believe that goodbyes are forever, or that they should be sad affairs, I invite you to raise a glass with me and remember only happy things today! No speeches, no tears, no solemn farewells. Please know that I've had a great life filled with wonderful memories of the things and people that count most - family and friends."
Rest in Peace Marci. We will miss you.
