Marilyn J. Opstad

Marilyn J. Opstad, 72, of Edmonds, WA, passed away March 10, 2011 in Edmonds after a courageous battle with cancer.
Marnie was born September 1, 1938 in Vancouver, B.C., Canada to George and Linda Ballson.
Marnie was employed by the Royal Bank of Canada prior to relocating to Edmonds. In March, 1965, she married Ivor Conn who preceded her in death in 1978. In November, 1981, she married Tom Opstad, also of Edmonds.
Marnie was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi International and very active in her chapter. Marnie and Tom have been active in the Avion and Fleetwood Travelcade Clubs for many years and traveled throughout the country in their trailer. She was an avid gardener and especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed walking the Edmonds waterfront with her friend Susie. She has been a longtime member of Edmonds Lutheran Church.
Marnie is survived by her husband, Tom; children, Trisha Baker, Tracey Haack (John), Tom Opstad (Francie), Doug Opstad (Genetta), Nancy Peinecke (Dale), Selina Conn and Desiree Conn; fifteen grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.
Special thanks to Dr. Richard McGee and his staff, the nurses, aids, and other caregivers at Swedish Edmonds Hospital for their kind and gentle care.
A celebration of Marnie's life will be held Friday, March 18, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Edmonds Lutheran Church, Edmonds.

Dear Opstads, I am so sorry for this loss. Marnie was a wonderful woman who clearly loved her family and cared deeply for her granddaughters. She will be missed. Thinking of all of you with love

Marnie was a wonderful neighbor, always happy, with a smile, encouraging word, and some good advice. Loving her yard and particularly her fuschias and geranium plantings, I'm sure she will be sorely missed in her neighborhood, and by all who knew her.

We remember many fun years of Marnie & Tom supporting both of their grand daughters along with my children during their Mansfield Fair & school sporting events.
To know Marnie was to love her and I hope the happy memories and knowing that she is now at peace will help fill the hole left in your lives.
