Mary (Koenig) Stevenson

Mary Helen Stevenson was born September 26, 1922 and passed away December 28, 2012. Her Mother, Louise Kaulich came from Czechoslovakia and her Father, Frank Koenig Sr. who came from Austria years before, raised Mary in Everett, Washington. She grew up on a five acre chicken ranch just outside of Everett and graduated from Everett High School in 1942. Mary studied nursing at Providence Nursing School in Everett where she obtained her R.N. before joining the Army where she served in a field hospital during the Korean War. She then transferred to Germany for three years. Upon returning to the U.S., she worked as a nurse in various nursing homes and in the 1970's worked in Seattle as a keypunch operator. Mary took care of her Mother for many years where they would seek warmer climates in Texas, New Mexico, and California to ease her mother's severe arthritis.
Mary was a free spirit who loved to cook, trying out new recipes for family gatherings, and enjoyed long walks as well as mountain hiking in her younger days.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Stevenson; and special friend, Floyd Rook.
She is survived by her brother, Frank Koenig; nieces, Judy Kimball (Larry), Kathy Markley (Brian); nephews, Fred Koenig (Mila), Ken Koenig; and many great nieces. Mary was a selfless person, with a very gentle soul who will be missed by all who knew her.
Mary's final years were spent at Summer Breeze Haven, where she was lovingly cared for by Della's family and staff. The family extends a special thank you to Verisa, Rebekah, and Kristen for comforting Mary during her final hours.
A celebration of Mary's life will be held in Everett on January 20th at 2:00 p.m. (call 425-357-5945).
