Melva Hillhouse Obituary

Melva E. Hillhouse

Melva Estella Hillhouse, 97, was born on October 11, 1913 in Bellingham, WA to Howard and Kathryn Quimby and died on January 19, 2011 in Everett, WA after a brief illness.
Melva was the eldest of four children, Bernita Fuller, 95, of Elliot Lake, Ontario, Canada, and Howard and Frank Quimby, both deceased.
She attended Bellingham schools, graduating from Bellingham High School in 1930. She was proud to be the first famiy member to do so. She married Wayne Hillhouse in 1933. Two children were born - Terry C. Hillhouse (Nancy) of Sedro Woolley, WA and Kathy L. Close (Tom) of Everett, WA,
She was proud of her six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
Melva attended Everett First Baptist Church for over 30 years and retired from Simpson-Lee Paper Company after 20 years.
Rarely was she seen without a knitting or crochet project. She was fun and funny and, though small in stature, she was a large force in her family, leaving a huge hole in her place.
Her family would like to thank Bethany at Pacific and Hospice for the gentle care they gave and the many thoughtful friends who extended loving cards and calls.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 1616 Pacific Avenue, Everett, WA.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Bethany at Pacific or Hosipce would be appreciated.

Kathy, I am Mabel Lynam's daughter, Sharrie. Your mom taught mine how to crochet and we all enjoyed the gifts of her labor. So she then taught me. Your mom's hobby had and still has a far reaching impact. My mom enjoyed time with Melva so much. Mom went to the Lord in March, 2006 so they are loving each other again and laughing together. Rejoice in your sweet memories. Sharrie Cleveland
