Nellie Karr Obituary

Nellie E. M. Karr

Dec. 13, 1933- Feb. 15, 2011

Nellie E. M. Karr passed from this life into the loving hands of God and the loving embrace of her husband, Quentin, as well as her son, David Foland.
Although Nellie had many children in her life, she is only survived by brother, Alan Fisher; her son, Fred Karr; and daughter, Ann Foland. However she was rich in grandchildren leaving behind, James Foland, Laureen Foland, Zack Karr, Garrett Karr, Wyatt Karr, Alex Anderson, and Alyssa Anderson; as well as 12 great-grandchildren.
Nellie retired from the King County Dept of Corrections in 1989, a job she loved with friends she adored and cherished. Later in life, through genealogy, she discovered the Mormon Church where she fell in love with its family type atmosphere. She and Quentin spent some time in Mexico before returning to the states. Although she had many hobbies and interest, her greatest joy was children. Not only her own, but taking in a family of five orphans into her and Quentin's home and raising them to adulthood. After that they welcomed an additional 27 exchange students over an eight year period. All the way to her last days, she was sponsoring children in Africa. Nellie will truly be missed by people worldwide whose life she has touched as well as people she saw on a daily basis. For the rest of our days, we will look to the stars for you, but if we really think about it, we will look inward, for you are forever in our hearts.
Services will be held at 6:30 p.m., March 3 at Seventh Day Adventist, 745 Ell St., Stanwood, WA 98282.

Nellie, you were always a joy to be around. Your laughter was infectious. You mothered, if not mentored, many of your younger colleagues at work because you cared about them. One memory I have is when you took your hair down having had it always up in a bun at work... your hair was so long.
