Richard and Sheri--We were so saddened and shocked to see Nick's obituary in the paper. Even though we unfortunately share the loss of a child with you, we know there is nothing that we can say that will ease your grief. Every situation is different so we don't pretend to know your pain.
I was Nick's counselor at Cascade High School. He was a classmate of our son and brother, Brett, who we tragically lost on May 7, 2002 in a fall at the University of Washington. Like Brett, Nick had a kind, generous, gentle, and unselfish soul--I will always remember his contagious smile. You need to know that I thought very highly of your son--he must have made you proud.
Like us, you will probably never understand or make sense out of Nick's leaving you so soon. Maybe someday when we see them again.
Take care of yourselves.

Sheri and Richard -

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. You always spoke of Nick and Elijah with such joy and love in your heart. He knew you loved him more than life itself. Please let me know if there is anything I can do.

May God bless you and give you peace at this time.

Richard and Sheri,
What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why Nick left this earth so soon, or why he left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that Nick died, but that he lived. And that his life gave us memories too wonderful to forget.
No words can really help to ease the loss you bear, just know that you are very close in our hearts and in prayer

Richard,
you have always been like a brother to me,we have grown up together, you in my wedding and I in yours. We have seen many good times and many sad times, I feel your pain and I hurt for you, but life goes on and there are alot of great memories we will always have in our hearts. Our grandsons are our children's legacy. I love you, brother

Richard & Sherry. There are no words that can be spoken that could possibly ease the pain in your hearts now or ever. I can't image losing a child and the impact that it can have on someone. I hope that you give my best wishes to his child Elijah as I feel deeply for the fact that he will not have his father to see him grow up. Richard I have known you since you were nine +- and your family have had more then their share of pain and loss but losing a child is the ultimate. I wish there was something I could do or say to help all of you heal but it is out of my hands as that is an individual thing. People speak of closure I believe that we may not get closure but we may try eventually come to understand that our love ones are at peace and someday we will be with them again. I wrote this in my dads obituary it goes something like this "You were right dad you can never go back because things will never be the same as they will never be the same without you". But you have your memories of all the good times and don't forget that. I am so sorry... Laurie Donaldson
