Paula Squiers Obituary

Paula Squiers

Paula "Polly" J. Squiers, age 63, passed Tuesday, June 7, 2011 in Everett, Washington.
Paula was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina April 30, 1948 to her birth parents, Paul R. Heape and Doris Bolen. In 1952, Doris married Myrt Charney and after adopting Paula, he became her father. The family was soon joined by Paula's sister and brother, Andrea and Michael. After living in Minnesota from 1955 to 1963, the family moved to Alaska in 1963, where Paula graduated from Juneau Douglas High School and went on to the University of Alaska in Fairbanks and Anchorage. It was there she met and eventually married Donald R. Squiers.
Around 1976, Paula and Don left Alaska and moved to Everett, Washington where she had resided since. Paula was an educator and community volunteer and cared deeply for many organizations around the area.
Paula leaves those who loved her: daughter, Clover M. Squiers (Hesse Phillips), of Medford, MA; father, Myrt Charney, of Missoula, MT; sister, Andrea (Arnie) Wetzstein, of Laughlin, NV; and brother, Michael (Joy McKenna) Charney, of Woodland Park, CO; step-sister, Jacquelyn (Andres) Serrano, of Anchroage, AK; her family of the Baha'i Community; her adopted grandson, Gabriel; and many cousins, nieces and nephews, located in Washington, Alaska, California, Indiana, South Carolina and elsewhere. She also leaves her half-sisters, Marcey Sampson, Paulette Wright, and Emily Heape, all of South Carolina.
Paula was predeceased by Paul R. Heape; mother, Doris B. Charney; stepmother, Jean S. Charney; her grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.
Graveside services at the Baha'i Garden area of Evergreen Cemetery in Everett will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 9, 2011.
Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made in Paula's name to the American Diabetes Association.
