Sandra Sue was born on December 22, 1943, in Oak Park, Illinois to Ellis "Al" and Jessie Agnes Tupper. Sandra went to be with the Lord on November 2, 2012 after learning just a week prior that she had advanced stage lung cancer. Her husband, daughters, granddaughters, additional extended family members and friends were at her side as she took her final journey.
Sandra Sue (Tupper) Sommerfeld
Sandra met the man of her dreams, John Sommerfeld, in Long Beach California in 1961 and they married on April 6, 1963 in Shelton, Washington. Shortly thereafter they built their stable and warm home in Edmonds, Washington before moving to Lake Stevens in 1998.
Sandra was a beautiful, kind, funny and loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She very much enjoyed raising her daughters and babysitting her granddaughters, watching their many sporting events, and being amongst family and friends. She regularly told them all how proud she was of them. They loved her deeply and their loss is profound.
John was especially proud of Sandra as she raised two daughters while taking on added responsibilities as the wife of a Washington State Trooper. The lifestyle can be challenging on a family, yet she handled it with great ease, grace and success.
She enjoyed scrapbooking and was always eager to get her hands on more pictures to create beautiful pages for all to enjoy. She was gifted with an eye for decorating. Throughout the years she decorated countless classrooms, homes and Christmas trees. The Sommerfeld home was often the place filled with neighborhood kids, activities and unconditional love. Sandra warmly accepted everyone and many consider her a "second mom".
Sandra is preceded in death by her dad, Ellis Tupper; her mother, Jessie Agnes Tupper; her nephew, Jerry Tupper; her sister-in-law, Joann Tupper; and her brother-in-law, Randy Sommerfeld.
She is survived by her husband, John Sommerfeld; her daughters, Shari Sommerfeld, Kelli Wilson; son-in-law, Wayne Wilson; and two granddaughters, Sydney and Hailey Wilson. She also leaves behind her brothers, John (Jan) Tupper, Alan (Patti) Tupper, Dick (Terry) Tupper; brother-in-laws, Ken (Janice) Sommerfeld, Barry (Donna) Sommerfeld; sister-in-law, Christine Sommerfeld; and numerous nieces and nephews and their children.
Sandra had many friends, but none more treasured than Donelle Holcomb, Linda Tawlks and her very best friend Barbara Jo Spencer. They created many memories while scrap-booking, playing Boggle, traveling and shopping. Their friendships began during the seventeen years that Sandra worked for the Mukilteo School District as a Teacher's Aide at Olympic View and Voyager Middle Schools.
The family wishes to thank the ICU nurses and Dr. Wood at Providence Hospital for their care and compassion provided to Sandra and the entire family during a very difficult time. The family also wishes to thank Brian Wright who led prayer as Sandra went on her final journey.
A celebration of Sandra's life was held at an earlier date.
