Thelma Rae Cordisco was born July 24, 1924, and passed away September 5, 2013, at the age of 89. Thelma was born in Foxholm, North Dakota. She was the youngest of three children born to parents, Ray and Mary Zinninger. She lived on the family homestead built by her grandfather, Jens Glein. She was beautiful, adventurous, hard-working, and helpful to her family. She attended school in Foxholm and was a fine basketball player. After graduation, she moved West for more employment opportunities in Washington. Thelma never forgot her roots in North Dakota and returned to help out and to visit each year. She met her future husband, Michael Cordisco, and they married on October 13, 1945. Mike worked in construction, and Thelma was employed in the upholstery business. They welcomed a son, Michael on May 28, 1948. The couple lived in Lynnwood, WA, and in their "spare" time, built their first house together, followed by three more. Thelma and Mike shared 54 wonderful years together until his death in 1999. Eventually, she moved to Marysville, WA. Thelma was preceded in death by parents, Ray and Mary Zinninger; husband, Michael Cordisco; and brother, Chester Zinninger. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sharon Cordisco of Monroe, WA; brother and sister-in-law, William and Polly Zinninger of North Dakota; special friends, the Goodman family, Southworth-Hallberg family, and the Shultz family; and many dear cousins and friends. She was a most beloved woman who will be deeply missed. She was thoughtful, caring, and loved her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, reading, Mariners baseball, gardening, and spending time with loved ones. We cherish the memories. Mom always said "I'm not much of a cook!", but nothing could be further from the truth. In addition to wonderful home cooking, her PIES were legendary. She excelled in so many areas and was as gifted sewing or creating beautiful handcrafted items as she was putting a roof on a house. She faced life's challenges with grace, courage, and strength. Thelma expressed to us that she felt fortunate and blessed to have lived 89 wonderful years, and she was at peace. Visitation will be held Monday, September 16, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Purdy & Walters-Floral Hills, Lynnwood, WA. Service at 12:00 p.m. with graveside service to follow.
