Yvonne Pence Obituary

Yvonne Carole Pence
July 30, 1938 - April 24, 2011

Yvonne Carole Pence went to heaven with Jesus surrounded by family in a peaceful and painless manner at 6:18 a.m. on the morning of Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011.
She was born July 30, 1938 in Minneapolis, MN to Adolph and Olga Bergman. She moved to Moses Lake, WA with her family in 1946.
She married Jerome Pence in December 1955 and together they had four children. He was in the military and they lived abroad for many years. While living in Japan she took up painting and produced many oil paintings, which are treasured by her children.
While living in southern California in the early 1970's she completed her high school diploma and graduated from San Bernardino School of Nursing. She moved to Stanwood, WA in 1997 and was a devoted member of the Stanwood Eagles and also the Stanwood American Legion. She volunteered many hours to the charities and events of both institutions, made many fine friends and was well known and loved by their members.
She is survived by her children, Lorance Pence, of Stanwood; Sheryl McKinney, of Grand Coulee, WA; Brian and Polly Pence, of Evarts, KY, and Alvin Pence and Linda Long, of Stanwood. She is survived by sisters, Dorothy McKinney, Kathy Boles and Nancy French; sister-in-law, Marilyn Bergman; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 30 at the Stanwood Eagles #3041 on Pioneer Highway. Please bring potluck.

A note for all the Pence family:

I am greatful to have had the opportunity to have met, known and worked with your mother. I am still a painter today as a result of her asking me if I wanted to paint with her when I did not have a job. She taught me how to paint in the early 90's. When I lived near her in Everett, she looked out for me and always kept me in mind and gave me things I needed. My sympathies are with the Pence family and May She Rest In Peace.

With Love,
Stacey Spencer

Yvonne treated me as though I was a daughter. She modeled for me what it means to be a tough, yet sensitive woman. I have many beautiful memories of being with her in Seattle, Everett, Arlington, Moses Lake, Stanwood and where ever else the adventure took us. She was with me during some of the highlights of my life and during my darkest hour. Sophie informed me that Yvonne was not well, so I wrote a letter to her last week. Unfortunately, I can see by the obituary that the letter was very untimely. It was a letter I should have written many, many years ago.

Larry, Sheryl, Brian, and Alvin, I am so sorry for your loss.
