Quest C. Allen

Quest C. Allen, 103, of Everett passed away February 22, 2011. She was born June 7, 1907 on a farm in Sunnyside, WA where she lived with her parents, sister, and four brothers.
After high school, Quest briefly attended Linfield College to pursue a teaching degree, but left early to care for her father after her mother's premature death. In 1930, her brother Warner brought guest Harry Allen home to the farm; the two struck up a friendship and corresponded steadily over the next three years. On January 26, 1933 they were married in a small ceremony in Southern California, surrounded by family and close friends. Harry and Quest lived in Los Angeles for the next 32 years, until Harry retired from the gas company. Together they raised 500 chickens as a side business, explored many of the western states and enjoyed years of hunting and fishing together. Shortly after Harry's retirement, they moved to Snohomish, WA. They were active members of the Snohomish First Presbyterian church serving as deacons for many years.
One of the highlights of retirement for both was their yearly trip to Utah to visit their many family members. For weeks before leaving, Quest would bake cookies; make jam and other treats to take to the nieces and nephews. The ability to care for her family was a life-long passion for her and one she excelled at. Her cookies and jams were legendary among all.
Quest was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Harry Allen; her parents; and all of her siblings. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many close friends. She will be tremendously missed by all.
Private graveside services will be held at GAR Cemetery in Snohomish. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Snohomish First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Snohomish First Presbyterian Church Deacon's Fund.
