Helen Sand, age 95, passed into the arms of her loving Savior on February 12, 2014, following four years of declining health during which she maintained her kindness, wit, wisdom, and grace. Daughter of 2nd generation Norwegian Americans, she grew up in North Dakota and finished high school and business school there, before marrying Lawrence Sand in 1939. They moved to Everett, WA in 1942 where they reared two daughters, Patsy (Patricia) Sand Bryant, now living in McLean VA, and Mitzi Schwesinger (deceased). Helen and Larry worked as a close, loving team in all their efforts, whether renovating and expanding their 1910-built North Everett home, learning about and making investments, or raising their daughters. Helen re-entered the workforce after her younger daughter Mitzi started school. She started as a secretary for the Campfire Girls of America and the Veterans' Administration, followed by a long career as a claims representative in the Everett office for the Social Security Administration. Her abilities and effectiveness were recognized in 1976 when she received a national award as one of ten outstanding SSA employees. Helen is survived by daughter, Patricia; nine grandchildren, Dennis Schwesinger, Dyonette Schwesinger, Jason Schwesinger, Carl Schwesinger, Seth Schwesinger, Rebecca Schwesinger Locke, Heidi Schwesinger, Marta Bryant, and James Sand Bryant; and sixteen great-grandchildren. Helen has been a member of Central Lutheran Church since 1942. Graveside services will be held at 11 am Saturday, February 22 at Evergreen Cemetery (4504 Broadway, Everett). A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. February 22, 2014 at Central Lutheran Church, (2702 Rockefeller, Everett).
