Irene Almaas, 94, of Snohomish, Washington, passed away Monday evening March 10, 2014 at home. She was born June 17, 1919 in Sequim, WA, the daughter of Henry and Eva Nelson. Irene had resided in Sequim, Seattle and Snohomish. Irene married Olaf Almaas August 26, 1942. They were married 64 years before his death on February 8, 2007. During WWII Irene worked at Higgins Aircraft in New Orleans. At the end of the war Olaf and Irene moved back to Seattle and started a family. After raising their children, Irene went to work as an interior designer for over 25 years. Irene and Olaf were avid square dancers for over 53 years and enjoyed clogging, snow skiing, and gardening. Irene was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Snohomish. Irene is survived by her two daughters, Kathy (Danny) Breece and Kristin (Jim) Flynn and her son, Arne (Judi) Almaas; seven grandchildren: Erik Flynn, Jason (Kelly) Flynn, Megan (Eric) Olson, Leif (Brandi) Flynn and Tara (Mike) Mahoney, Keven (Joanna) Babbitt and Aaron (Lyndsey) Babbitt; seven great-grandchildren: Aiden and Spencer; Kailen, Makena and Ashlyn; Gaven; and Keira. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at Swan's Trail - 5511 64th Street S.E., Snohomish, WA. Arrangements are under the care of Solie Funeral Home and Crematory.
