Cornelia "Kate" Adriana Zylstra, 97, met her Lord on Monday, April 7, 2014. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her family. She was born in Duvall, WA to Peter and Grace Van Biezen on January 19, 1917. On March 27, 1941, she married Herman Zylstra, and they farmed and raised their family in the Duvall area. After Herman's passing in 1981, she lived in Monroe and later Lake Stevens, WA. She was a very active lifetime member of New Hope Fellowship (Monroe Christian Reformed Church). She loved to travel, garden, sew, paint, and bake cookies for her grandchildren. Her wise kindness has been a source of grace for her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Zylstra; two brothers; one sister; and her daughter, Linda Medcalf. Surviving her are sister, Grace (Art) DeGroot; children, Ruth (Randy) Britsch, Tom (Kate) Zylstra, Sigrid Brorson, Bonnie (Gary) Gossett, Betty Krygsheld, and Keith (Susie) Zylstra; 19 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at New Hope Fellowship, 1012 W. Main Street, Monroe, WA, on Friday, April 11, 2014 at 1 p.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church.
