Robert Edmonson Gowdey, age 93 of Arlington, WA passed away on April 13, 2014. Robert was born in Judith Gap, MT to Naomi and Alec Gowdey on December 16, 1920. He began working as a farmhand at age eleven and continued working as a cook, carpenter's assistant and school bus driver during his time in high school. In 1943 he enlisted in the Army-Air Corp. While overseas on duty, he traveled to England, Belgium, Holland, Germany and France. While in Paris he met his one love, Frances Denisse. After his time overseas, he traveled back to Whitefish, MT to await her arrival in 1946, when they married. Robert was a WWII and Korean War Veteran. He served in the Air Force for twenty years as an aircraft maintenance supervisor in Keflavik, Iceland and Montgomery, AL. After retiring in 1961, Robert returned to Washington and attended college at Eastern Washington State College in Cheney, WA. He graduated with a degree in education and taught school for the Shoreline School District for the next fifteen years. Robert and Frances raised four wonderful children and he is is survived by his daughter, Helen Green (Dennis); daughter, Carol Robinson (Steve); daughter, Linda Syria (Leo); and son, Bruce Gowdey. Robert is also survived by his brother, John Gowdey (Eva) of Spokane, WA; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by Frances, his wife of 60 years; and by his brother, Roger Gowdey (Gayle) of Whitefish, MT. Robert enjoyed fishing, gardening, cheering on the Seahawks and Mariners teams and his time at the casino. He loved being with his family who will miss him immensely.
