Dec. 28, 1922 - April 24, 2014 Long time Bothell resident and retired registered nurse, Alma Magdalene Egli Kerr passed away quietly on April 24, 2014. Alert and active until days before her death, Alma came to a peaceful and gentle end as she slept quietly with her faithful dog Fred laying by her side and son Jeffrey attending her. Born in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, Alma grew up in a large family. She attended Nebraska Methodist College Nursing School, where she earned the degree of Registered Nurse. In 1944 she began a long career of nursing, and helping others through illness and injury. Her profession was the jewel of her life. She was a visiting nurse in the slums of Omaha Nebraska in 1944, and a nurse at Berkeley General Hospital in California in 1945--1946. Beginning in 1947, she served for many years at Ballard General Hospital in Seattle, where she was eventually appointed supervising nurse of the emergency room. She went on to work at several other Seattle area hospitals. For the last part of her career, Alma served as a supervising nurse at several care centers and nursing homes, including the Emma Chadwick Home in Bothell. Alma spent her retirement years living quietly in Bothell, and traveling periodically, especially to visit grandchildren. She had a great fondness for her dogs, which were her constant companions, and her garden. She is survived by her sons, Harlan Kerr and his husband, Douglas Hilsinger, San Francisco, CA, Jon Kerr and his partner, Michael Germo, Longview, WA, Jeffrey Kerr, Bothell, WA; and daughter, Pamela Salin and her husband, Robin, Clovis, CA. Alma leaves behind three grandchildren, Jordan C. Kerr, Chicago, ILL, Kristin Herman, Monterey, CA, and Trenton Salin, Sacramento, CA; and five great-grandchildren, Anneliese Herman, Noah Herman, Genevieve Herman, Westin Salin, and Grayson Salin. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Alice "Chipper" Brecht, of Iowa City, IA. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Catholic church, Woodinville, at 11:00 a.m., to be followed by a graveside service and internment at Floral Hills Cemetery, Lynnwood, WA at 2:00 p.m. on the same day.
