Norman Clyde Helm was born on November 7, 1929, at Route 2, Snohomish, WA. second son to William Henry Helm and Eunice Aletha Helm (Benson) and slipped away to run and skip with the angels on May 4, 2014, in Arlington, WA. He was preceded by his parents; his older brother, William A. Helm and his younger brother, Arthur M. Helm and a half-brother Thomas Helm; and step father, Verner Benson. He leaves his loving wife, Jean (Hubbard) Helm of 62 years; daughter, Aletha (Mark) Riter; son, N. Scott (Jana) Helm; granddaughters, Kata Helm, Melea Helm and Nellie Helm. He also leaves a brother-in-law William H. (Monica) Hubbard of Bradenton FL; step-mother Juanita Helm, half-brother, Larry Helm; aunts, Rose Wheeler, Doris (Willie) Hayes; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He graduated from Monroe High school in 1948. Norm contracted polio as a student at Everett Community College in 1949, but never allowed it to govern his life. He worked productively as a Safeway Store employee for 52 years, from age 12, during WW II, until his retirement in 1995. Norm and Jean were married on June 10, 1951. They met while Jean was a student nurse at Everett General Hospital. He and Jean made their first home in Snohomish, WA. where they lived for 17 years until they built a larger home, north of town in 1968. He enjoyed traveling and camping with his family. Norm was a charter member of the Kiwanis of Snohomish. After retirement, he and Jean enjoyed several years of traveling in their motorhome, reaching all states west of the Mississippi except Colorado, making friends along the way. He treasured outings with the Rainier Holiday Ramblers #102. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church at North Lakewood. He will be missed by all who knew him for his humor and his smile. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Faith Lutheran Church - North Lakewood, 1424 172nd St NE, Marysville, WA 98271. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to .
