Darlene Fox, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on February 2, 2008, on a sunny afternoon surrounded by her family and friends after a very determined 11 year fight with breast cancer.
Darlene was born on May 19, 1955 in North Burnaby, Vancouver, British Columbia to Eskil and Margaret Jungaro. She attended Mariner High School and Everett Community College and owned and operated Bay View Child Care in Everett, which she established in 1978. Swedish by birth, Darlene had a lifelong love of horses and the Cowboy Way, buying her first horse at 14 and riding her last horse, her dream Palomino just a few months before she died. Darlene was a very active advocate for children's rights. She was a member of the Assistance League of Everett - Kitty Young Auxiliary and she worked extensively with Representative Pat Scott developing legislation to protect children and stiffen penalties for child abusers.
Darlene is survived by her husband of 33 years, Phillip Fox; daughter, Mariah Fox Miller (husband, Erik Miller); son, Logan Fox (fiancée, Jenny Wenala); stepson, Phillip Fox Jr.; grandchildren, Montana and Safronia Miller, William, Waylon, Clayton and Coleman Fox; mother, Margaret Jungaro; and uncle, Gunnar Jungaro. She has many close relatives still living in Sweden and Finland and enjoyed visiting the original Jungaro family home near Jeppo, Finland.
Darlene was preceded in death by her father, Eskil Jungaro.
Darlene liked to live life in a BIG WAY. She was an outstanding friend, wife, mother and grandmother . . . . always optimistic, adventuresome, and capable. Darlene was especially known for her love of life, her sense of fun and her unique sense of humor. She was headstrong, determined, opinionated, kind and more than anything, compassionate in the most profound way. Her home in Everett was the social center for a very extended network of friends and family. Her ability to live in the moment and live each day to the fullest, even in the face of her illness, she was an inspiration to all who were lucky enough to know her as a friend.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 9, 2008, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Everett located at 2324 Lombard Ave. There is a viewing prior to the service from 4 to 8 p.m., on Friday, February 8, 2008, at the Evergreen Cemetery, 4504 Broadway.
The funeral service is open to everyone and is a day to give tribute to a truly unique, extraordinary human being. The family asks that friends bring a written memory of Darlene to be included in a book for her family and be prepared to share a story during the celebration of her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made on behalf of Darlene to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Three Day Walk that her children are participating in. You may donate by going to www.the3day.org, click on "donate now" - search team name "Mama Fox", click on Logan or Mariah and make a donation.
