Miller Gregerson Obituary

Miller George Gregerson

Miller George Gregerson, 92, passed on to his new journey Saturday, October 24, 2009. He was born in Lakewood, WA on October 5, 1917 to George and Augusta Gregersen from Norway. Upon the death of his father, Miller became the head of the household at the age of 13, milking cows before and after school to help support his family. He graduated from Arlington High School in 1936.
Between the years 1936 and 1948 Miller served as a First cook in the Civilian Conservation Corps. (CCC) at Camp Darrington, commercially fished the Washington and Alaska waters and served proudly in the US Army. He married Jeannette (Toppy) Parmer Underhill in 1949 and enjoyed almost 44 years together doing what they loved most: raising their five children and niece; passionately camping, fishing, hunting and hiking (any excuse to be in the great outdoors) with family and lifelong friends; and later snowbirding to Salton City, CA.
Miller retired from UA Local 699, Sprinklerfitters Union after 35 years working for Viking Automatic Sprinkler Company. Several years after Toppy passed in 1993, Miller was reunited with his 60 year long past sweetheart, Laura Josephson Johnson and they married in July 1998. They lived and played their 11 years together as snowbirds in CA and residents of Minot, ND but always returned to salmon fish and camp with his family and friends in his beloved State of Washington.
Miller is preceded in death by his wife, Toppy; son, Steve Gregerson; brother, Paul Gregersen; and sister, Edna Johnson Splaine.
Surviving him is his wife and "Best Pal", Laura; loving daughters, Jean and Debbie Gregerson (Don Applebee); niece, Carol Gregersen; step-children, Dalene McIntire and Darlene Knobbs, Darlene (David) Brandt, Sharon Ellis, Ron (Diane) Johnson, Emily (Randy) Huether; his best friends; his siblings, Gladys Stewart, Jenny Smith, Roy and Carl Gregersen (Claudia) and Art Jewell (Alice); 11 greatly loved grandchildren; 26 special great-grandchildren; and many dear nephews and nieces.
Miller lived his life to the fullest, never missing the opportunity for love, laughter and good times. He takes from those who loved him a piece of each of our hearts and he leaves us with more love and happy, wonderful memories to overfill those hearts.
A celebration of his life will be held at 1:30 p.m., November 15, 2009 at Lago De Plata Clubhouse, 620 112th St. SE, Everett, WA 98208. Refreshments will be served.

Not sure what to say?

November 27, 2009

Although we have been late in signing this guestbook, our thoughts and prayers are with you, Laura, Debbie, Jeanie and the rest of this great family. We know this has been a difficult time for all. It has been good for us to read through all the special memories in this book. What a wonderful man! Guttorm just loved spending time with him, especially fishing. You could see the twinkle in their eyes when they were together. Miller had a constant smile and a wonderful zest for life. We will always have his smile in our hearts.

Love, Inger, Gerd-Inger, and Paul Gregersen

Uncle Miller will be so missed. He was so kind and loving to all of us "kids." He made camping so much fun. And Greg and I would fight over Uncle Miller's smoked salmon when mom brought home jars in her suitcase. I loved to hear Miller talk about the exciting jobs he had during his life. What an amazing, loving man. We are so blessed to have had him in my lives.

Gregerson Family:
I remember when we were kids,we would go up to Flowing Lake every weekend and your dad would build the biggest bon fire ever! To this day if I see a big fire I always comment that Miller must be here:) My parents and your folk were such good friends. My dad and yours are now together with Dyke, Bill, Uncle Boots and Steve and all the other sprinkler fitters discussing how much pipe they laid and I'm sure it is around a table where they are playing cards and Toppy, Pearl and Aunt Muggs are making sure they get plenty to eat:)
May God watch over all of you and Laura. Your dad will be missed.

Miller, my brother, was so very special. We laughed and we danced and always played "holy board". We always enjoyed being together and what could be better than fishing with Miller in Sequi. He will always be that very special big brother and be missed so very very much. Miller, you are now one more bright star in Heaven. My love and sympathy to all the family.
With loving memories,
Your sister Gladys (Geege)

Dad

I needed to talk to you today but your not here. I read through this guest book and felt your presence through these loving thoughts and tributes to you. (Thank you, all, for your part of keeping Dad close.) I came up with my tribute after reading how much you meant to everyone who knew you.

Son, brother, husband, dad,
grandpa (papa), uncle, cousin, friend.
These are the many hats you lovingly wore.
Kind, gentle, giving, fun,
loving, and caring to everyone.
This is how we will remember you, forevermore.

May your new mountain trails lead you to greater heights. I know you will be watching over all of us back at camp.

Love
Debbie

Thank you Grandpa Miller for all of the wonderful camping and fishing memories. I can still see the box of fiddle faddle on your trucks dashboard. My fondest memory however is one of our trips to Oregon to visit Aunt Murtle and Uncle Elmer (and their nasty little dogs). At the fair, Auntie Jeanie was always talking me into going on the wild rides, ensuring me that they weren't that bad when they always were. I was most afraid of the ferris wheel. probably because it was so big and went so high. You took me on my first ride ever on the ferris wheel.. just you and me riding in the wind. I felt like i was on the top of the world with my Grandpa! Your laugh will forever be in my heart. I owe so many childhood memories to you and Grandma Toppy. Thank you for being such wonderful grandparents to all of your grandchildren. You'll never know what a difference and impact it made to our lives.

Laura, Debbie, Jeannie and families. I am saddened by the loss of Uncle Miller. Whenever I think of Miller I remember all the fun we had at Salton Sea from Moon Howls, Holey Board to just playing pool. He was a good man and loved by all. We will miss you Miller. My thoughts and prayers to all of you.

I first met Miller 41 years ago when I was 16 and had just started dating his niece Carol Gregersen. He was always nice to me and I remember him sharing his hunting stories with me at the big dining room table. He and Toppy introduced me to venison and elk steaks.

Everyone misses the old guy but what a life. He was still dancing well at 90 and kicking my butt in pool.

He will remain a favorite memory with love and peace,

Zac Harmon, Long Beach California

Jean and Debbie,
We're so sorry to hear about Miller. He was such a wonderful man -- full of life and full of fun. We'll never forget our day of Holey Board play at his place in the Salton Sea. He was so excited to show us the game and we had so much fun that we didn't want to leave. Nor will we ever forget the many nights of playing pool together in Everett. He was a great guy and just thinking of him brings a smile to our hearts.

I loved to listen to Miller talk about his hunting and fishing. He loved to take out his pictures and show them to me. He was very proud of them. Last fall when I purchased a couple of new hunting rifles, I would make sure to bring them so that he could see them and handle them. He told me of his hunting stories in the mountains. I had so many more questions about his experiences in WWII that I did not have a chance to ask him.

I will always remember the time I took him ice fishing on Lake Darling. I brought him about seven layers of clothing, and we sat on 5 gallon buckets fishing for walleye through holes in the ice. He thought that was pretty neat.

He was a great addition to our family over the last 11 years. In this last year or so when I took him to doctor's appointments he probably thought he was a burden to me. Nothing was farther from the truth. I actually enjoyed his company. He and I went out for breakfast at the truck stop after his doctor's visits. He was someone I really respected and admired. He will be missed here in Minot.

Jeanie this is a wonderful tribute...I always loved the
way your family enjoys each other....the young and
old. And undoubtly he was a big instigator of those
good times. And a lover of life. That must be why all
of us at TT love you so much...Miller was very special.
I am glad you shared so much of your good times with
us....as I felt like I knew him and Laura also...and will
also miss him. Love you. Pat Sandusky

I can't count the number of times that Miller and Grandma Laura would laugh and laugh over a game of cards, or share their stories of "cracking the whip" on the roller rink. Miller brought such joy to the world. I'm so thankful for the memories he's left with my family. My deepest sympathy to all...

You have been an anchor to our family, now we are adrift.

I'll never forget the time you took me hunting when I was a freshman in high school. I felt so important!

Camping and fishing memories abound, too many to even count. I know your spirit still abides in the mountains and at the lakes and streams you so loved. Thank you for all your love and kindness over the years.

My sympathies to Laura, I know she will be lost without you.
