Nicholas Michael Messina, 95, passed away on September 11, 2011. Nicholas was born in New Orleans, LA on May 23, 1916, the 13th of 14 children of Calogera Maniscalco and Giovanni Messina.
Nicholas served proudly in the US Army Air Corp during World War II and, upon his return from the Pacific theatre in 1946, he married Marjorie in Wichita, Kansas. They moved to Mountlake Terrace, WA in 1958.
Nick was an active member of Saint Pius X Catholic Church, a Boy Scout leader for over 10 years and a 1968 recipient of the St. George Award for outstanding contributions to the spiritual development of Catholic youth in the Boy Scout program. He was a member of the Mountlake Terrace-Brier Lions Club and American Legion Post 234 and a founding member and volunteer for many years on the Mountlake Terrace Crime Watch. He was a proud owner of "Messina's Italiano Ristorante" in Bellevue, WA.
Affectionately known as "Papa Nick" or "Chef Messina", hundreds have dined on his "famous" Italian spaghetti sauce, "the best you ever ate."
