William Edward Hummel MD, age 89 of Everett, WA, passed away July 16, 2012. He was born October 20, 1922 in Everett to Robert and Anna Hummel. Bill is a direct descendant of the Hummel family who homesteaded on Lopez Island, WA. Bill married Doris Gribble on September 23, 1945 in Everett.

After graduating from Everett High School in 1941, he attended Washington State University at Pullman and the Everett Community College. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1944, the University of Chicago Medical School in 1949 and completed his Internship and Orthopedic Residency at the University of Oregon and Shriner's Children's Hospital of Portland. Before returning to Everett to practice medicine, Bill served in the US Navy during WWII and as a medical officer during the Korean Conflict. Dr. Hummel practiced as a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon in Everett from 1956 until his retirement.
Bill was active in the Sertoma Club, the Everett Ski Club, the North Pacific Orthopedic Society and sponsored Nursing Scholarships through Everett Community College. He enjoyed sailing, skiing, fishing, bird hunting and car restoration with his family and friends.
Bill is survived by his wife of 67 years, Doris; his sons, Todd (Debra and children, Erik and Kaitlin) and John (Diane and children, Marin and Joel); daughters, Robin Hummel-Johnson (son, Jason) and Lisa Hummel (Jeff Wilson); nephew, Robert Hummel; and niece, Margurite Becker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert C. Hummel II; and son-in-law, Bram Johnson.

A Memorial Reception will be held Saturday, August 4, 2012 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Everett Golf and Country Club, 1500 52nd St., Everett. A private service will be held for the family on Lopez Island.
