Donald Lamar Hunter
Sept. 11, 1929-Nov. 30, 2012

Don "Sonny" was born in Cairo, IL on September 11, 1929.
The only child of Elizabeth and Algee "Doc" Cotrell, Donald graduated from Cairo High School's class of 1949, and went on to join the army in 1950 where he served as an armored tank commander in Korea. After he was honorably discharged in 1953, he relocated to California where he studied drafting and plumbing engineering at Long Beach Community College. In 1956 Don met a wonderful Italian man and his wife, Hugo and Helen Noce, who hired him to do some much needed plumbing repairs. This turned into much more than a casual business relationship when they introduced him to their daughter, Judy, and her two children, Jamie Helena and John Robert. They were wed on June 28, 1957 and together they had Donald Lamar Jr. and Marianna Judith. Donald and Judy, in 1967, moved their growing family to Washington State and settled in Brier, in Snohomish County. Donald retired from the University of Washington as a plumber after 29 years of service in 1993. An avid Husky fan, he never missed a football game - GO HUSKIES! Donald was a devoted volunteer fireman in Brier for many years and he donated much of his time to the Explorer Scout Fireman training program with his son, John.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; and four children: Jamie, her husband, Matthew Mitchell, and their child, Jordan; John and his wife, Marsha, and his children, Derek Hunter, Melissa Waggoner, Janay Hunter; Donald L. Hunter Jr., and Marianna and husband, Paul Tokareff, with his children, Carri and Nichol. He is also survived by three beloved great granddaughters.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. in Mountlake Terrace at the Terrace View Presbyterian Church on 228th and 48th Street.
At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The .
