Jerome O. Marpell

Jerome O. Marpell, 96, died Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at his home. Jerry was born to Walter and Elsa Marpell on December 6, l916 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
He is survived by Florence his wife of 63 years; his sister, Virginia of Wisconsin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Navy on December 8, 1941 and served until 1945 aboard the USS Honolulu as Radarman First Class. His cruiser was damaged so many times that at war's end when most ships were being sold to other countries, the Honolulu was deemed unseaworthy and ordered to be cut up for scrap. He was the recipient of numerous silver and bronze stars and commendation ribbons.
He met his wife, Florence in Los Angeles, CA. They were married on April 14, 1950.
Jerry was an avid golfer and prolific fisherman and bird hunter. He was a Life Member of the Nile Shriners, and belonged to the Nile Golf and Country Club.
A family memorial will be held at a future date.
