Mark Joseph "Maleko" Uhl, son of Marietta and Donald Uhl, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 51 on January 13, 2014 at his home in Granite Falls, WA. Mark was born April 15, 1962 in Everett. He grew up in north Everett and graduated from Everett High School in 1980. Mark received a Bachelors degree in 1993 from Western Washington University in Recreation and Leisure Studies. His education helped him to be a strong contributing member to the community of north Everett. He gave many years of service to the Boys & Girls Club, where he was a positive role model for local youth. Mark touched the lives of so many. He will be remembered as a pillar of strength for his daughters, for his fondness of family and friends, and his love of the outdoors. Mark was an avid hunter and golfer, who enjoyed his yearly trips to Alta Lake. He was a proud member of USSSA Umpires Association and served most recently as Umpire and Chief. His commitment to excellence and love of the game led him to receive the "Rookie (Umpire) of the Year" award, and the Golden Whistle award. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Marietta Uhl. He was also preceded in death by his faithful hunting dog, Chip. He is survived by two daughters: Marissa and Jennette; three siblings: JoAnne Clark (Dan), Larry Uhl (Connie), and Laurie Brunke (Rick); several nieces and nephews, and four grandchildren: Hayley, Junior, Allyson, and Samantha. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 12:30 pm at Allen Creek Community Church, located at 7314 44th Ave. NE, Marysville, WA 98270. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the "Mark Uhl Memorial Fund" at Wells Fargo Bank to assist the family with funeral costs. A celebration of life to coincide with opening season of baseball will be announced at a future date.
