Radley Russell, 61, of Everett (Silver Lake), Washington lost his 18 month battle with small cell carcinoma lung cancer on Sunday, March 2, 2014. He was born May 14, 1952 in Almondsbury (Bristol), England to Sydney Dwight and Peggy Joyce Russell. He immigrated to the United States with his parents in 1968 and lived in Everett. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War between 1969 and 1973. He served two tours of duty there. Rad married Beverly Colleen on November 11, 2000 at Mahogany Beach in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. He retired from GTE/Verizon after 30 years of service in December, 2007. He was an Installer, Facilities Technician and then a Field Technician/Engineer (a position he loved). He was a long standing member of both SRAC (Snohomish Radio Airplane Club) and FHC (Flying Heritage Collection Airplane Museum). He had interests in flying all sizes and models of R/C airplanes; his real passion was flying gas/nitro engine airplanes. Rad also enjoyed cruise ship sailing around many parts of the world - all of the Caribbean was his favorite. He also said there was nothing better than kicking back with an ice cold brewski and listening to Reggae music as the ship glided through the turquoise blue ocean waters of the Caribbean. Rad's #1 interest was Aviation History – particularly, WWII airplanes (the Spitfire and Hurricane being his favorites). Whenever either of these airplanes were flown out at FHC - Rad was front and center in order to take perfect photographs of these prestigious airplanes. Rad's last interest was photographing all sizes and types of airplanes. He worked hard at getting the "prop blur" exactly as he saw it with the naked eye. He will miss being at the Reno International Air Races each September; His favorites were the Unlimiteds ( all are WWII aircraft). Rad is survived by his wife, Beverly Colleen; his sister, Sue Robbins (Marty); a brother; nieces and nephews, Darren Milsom ( Julie), Jason Milsom (Sunshine), Julie Pemberton, Christopher Russell, Kyle Russell, Chris Kirkpatrick and Juliann Stewart (Lawrence); grand nieces and grand nephews, Jessica Milsom, Jensen Milsom, Serina Milsom, Avery Pemberton, Sage Kirkpatrick and Royce Stewart. Rad is preceeded in death by his parents, Syd and Peggy Russell. Rad has a message for anyone who is still smoking: "Please quit now as smoking really does cut your life severely short". He wishes he would have quit many years ago before it was too late. All of Rad's family and friends wish to thank everyone at The Cancer Partnership Cancer Treatment Center in Everett; all personnel at Summer Breeze Haven Adult Family Home in Everett; and Evergreen Hospice for making Rad's last 18 months of his life the very best it could possibly be. You all helped each of us more than you will ever know. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. God bless you all. Memorial Contributions are suggested to: FHC (Flying Heritage Collection) Restoration at Paine Field, 3407 109th St. SW, Everett, WA 98204, 206-342-4242
