Richard Anderson Obituary

Richard Anderson, 72, passed away suddenly from cancer, on July 16, 2014, in Darrington. He was born September 2, 1941, in Everett, to Stoney and Elizabeth Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patricia Wall. Richard graduated from Everett High School in 1960, served in the US Air Force from 1961 to 1965. He married Lois Turk in 1962 and they raised their two sons, Dale and Stoney in Marysville. Richard worked at Lee Grocery Co. for years, then owned and operated Anderson Marine Electronics Co. on the Everett waterfront. He moved to Darrington in 1989, where he owned and operated the Sauk River Trading Post for many years until he retired. During Richard's life he was active in many community activities including Boy Scouts, hiking the Pacific Crest trail with Webelos, and attending sports events with his sons. He was instrumental in organizing the 4th of July parade and fireworks in Darrington as well as serving on many committees and city projects. Mainly his love of hunting, fishing, hiking, camping and the love of nature and outdoors kept his attention. Many family outings will be treasured by those left behind. He was a loving, kind and generous man and all who have been touched by him will hold his memory dear. Richard is survived by his brother, Gary (Martha) of Camano Island; ex-wife, Lois of Everett; and sons, Dale and Stoney both of Snohomish, and grand children, Cory, Haley (Jake) Belford and Ariel, Nichole, Katie, Jalynn and Braden of Auburn. Also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends will miss his presence especially during the hunting season and family gatherings. Richard's family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to Louise Geary and her whole family for filling his life with love and adventure this past year. Richard met and fell in love with Louise at the food bank in Darrington and worked side by side serving the community especially during the recovery of the Oso slide victims, as well as sharing adventures and a wonderful cruise to the Caribbean. Thanks also to the Darrington Health Clinic and to the firemen and paramedics who assisted him in his passing. A remembrance will be held at the Darrington Community Center on August 2, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. If you would like to bring a dish, please feel free to do so.

Richard was a truly good man. He helped his community in any way he could, even when he was in pain you could always see him working at the Food Bank, or helping out someone in some way. If you were blessed enough to know him, you could consider yourself his friend. He truly cared about others more than himself. Darrington will mourn your loss for a long long time. RIP Richard

Richard was the Man that's for sure.We all Loved Richard. And you could bet on seeing the smile. When my sons told me that I had to catch my own fish,I would go ask Richard what I could buy that would catch more fish than them. Richard laughed at me and said good luck Judy.He well be missed.
