Steven Wegener Obituary

October 4, 1954-August 15, 2014 Steven Wayne Wegener, age 59, passed away with his loving family by his side on August 15, 2014 after a long battle with cancer. Steven was born October 4, 1954 in Arlington, Wash. to Della M. (Lenhart) and Wayne Wegener. Steve grew up in the Port Angeles and Snohomish area and graduated from Snohomish High School in 1972. His jobs allowed him to travel the United States working for large commercial contractors installing freezer units and fishing in the waters off Alaska. He was well known for his work as a heavy duty equipment operator. Steve loved the outdoors, hunting, and fishing and was a member of the National Rifle Association as well as local gun clubs in the Snohomish area. Steve is survived by his mother, Della Deets and husband, Dean A "Pop" Deets; two sons, Chad and Matthew Wegener; and four grandchildren, Caleb, Jaxon, and Destiny Wegener and Tayden Irelan Wegener. Also surviving are six sisters, Brenda Wegener, Cheryl McPherson, Kimberly Protasiewicz, Laura Simmons, Kathy Lassiter, and Terry Wheeler; and three brothers, Troy, Todd, and James Wheeler. Richard Wognild, a cousin whom he loved like a brother, also survives. He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Wegener. The family wishes to acknowledge Dr. Oliver Batson from the Oncology Cancer Center, Everett, Wash., Dr. Robert Lycksell of Oak Harbor, and the staff at Hospice of the Northwest for their love and care during Steve's long journey with cancer. A special note of thanks to Susan Magana for all her loving support. A Celebration of Life Open House will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2014 beginning at 1:00 p.m. at 8607 123rd Avenue SE, Snohomish, WA 98290. Arrangements were entrusted to Wallin Funeral Home, Oak Harbor. To share messages or condolences, please visit Steve's Book of Memories page at the funeral home website, www.wallinfuneralhome.com.
