Arthur Pires Obituary
Arthur Pires, of Hingham formerly of Fall River, passed away on January 8, 2019. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Antone and Louise Pires. He was the loving and devoted husband of 58 years of the late, Ruth (Silvia). The cherished father of Diane Ferry and her husband Michael of Cleveland, OH, Alan Pires and his partner Tim Diamond of Cleveland, OH and Debra Moxie and her husband David of Scituate. He was the loving grandfather of Abigail and her husband Michael Hamrick, Jacob, Olivia and her husband Clayton Karseno, Anne and Emily Moxie. Great-grandfather of Adriana, Troy and Ava. Brother of Richard Pires and his wife, Judy of South Easton. Also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. Arthur was an Army Veteran during WWII stationed in Korea. He spent the majority of his career working for the Fall River Herald News as a Lino- type printer. Arthur was an active parishioner of St. Marys Cathedral and was a recipient of the Marian Medal Award in 1992. Arthur was a man of deep faith, a loving husband and father and an adventurous traveler. He loved walking with Ruth, swimming at the YMCA, listening to big band music, and watching college football. Arthur enjoyed 3 and a half wonderful years at the Allerton House in Hingham. Visiting hours will be at Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St, Rt. 53, Hanover on Sunday, January 13th from 2pm to 4pm. A Mass of Christian burial celebrated on Monday, January 14th at 10am at St. Mary's Cathedral, 327 2nd St., Fall River followed by burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to St. Annes Hudner Oncology Center in Fall River or the .
