Kay Finch Obituary

FORT MILL - Kay Hadsall Finch, 69, wife of Robert H. Finch from 1961 to 1995, was born on June 10, 1943, to the late Glenn and Ruth Hadsall in Binghamton, N.Y. She died on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013.

Surviving are her daughter, Rebecca Kay Rector and Russell Stratton of Palmetto, Fla.; son, Glenn Howard Finch and Sarah Finch of Winter Park, Fla.; daughter, Nicole Elisabeth Taylor and James Taylor of Fort Mill, S.C.; grandchildren, Trisha Lynn Cram, Tiffanie Kay Cross, Kyle Glenn Finch, Jacquelyn Nicole Finch, Sebastian James Taylor, Annabelle Lynn Taylor and Alysabeth Rose Taylor; great-grandchild, Karli McKenna Finch; and brother, Ivan Lewis Hadsall and Anna Hadsall of Fort White, Fla.

Kay was first and foremost a homemaker. It was no surprise when she graduated from Chenango Forks High School as the valedictorian in 1961. However, rather than developing a professional career in culinary arts and food presentation, she focused her heart and mind on her family and crafted relationships and memories that made an indelible impact on all those who knew her. Kay lived in New York, Florida, Kentucky and South Carolina. She had a skill for making each place a home in no time at all while adopting the best of her surroundings and stitching a patchwork of memories rich in love, nurture and encouragement.

Whether traveling to the beach or the mountains, Israel or Bahamas, Disney or River Walk, Kay was in awe of life. She delighted in the flight of a butterfly, thrilled at the crack of a bat, and rejoiced in the accomplishments of her children. She was an athlete and a fan; a student and a teacher; a confidant and a guide. Her faith was constant and her hope was sure. She stood in the Shadow of her Father’s Wings and welcomed anyone to share the joy. She made small children feel tall, received the tiniest token as a treasure, and made the old fashioned notion of sending thank you notes a privilege and an art form. She made each child and grandchild feel like her favorite, and they will never doubt they are. Her inspiration led her children to make their impact in the medical, musical, legal and financial industries, the ministry and the military--the very thing you would expect of a valedictorian. Her words, “I’m so proud of my family” echo still and her grandchildren already know it well.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 13110 Moss Rd., Charlotte, NC 28273.

Beautiful obituary for a great friend for many years. So glad I saw her home that she was so proud of and that I had the opportunity to speak to her one last time at Christmas. I will miss her.

As I've said elsewhere....The stars are shining much brighter now as they reflect the light of Kay's smile. My heart is broken but I rejoice in the fact that she is singing witht the angels and dancing on Heaven's floor at the feet of her Lord and savior. Praying that the joy of her life provides comfort against the grief of loss (borrowed from someone else).

With Much Love,
