Beamguard, Dewana (Upshaw) - Powhatan  
Dewana Upshaw Beamguard, 68, of Powhatan, VA, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond, VA, on Thursday, May 26, 2016. Dewana was the daughter of the late Mary Alice Wingfield Hodson and Miles Berna Upshaw and was preceded in death by her sister, Deanna Upshaw. Dewana was a native of Columbia, LA, and a direct descendant of Captain Edward-Maria Wingfield, the first president and founder of the English colony at Jamestown, VA, in 1607. She was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University, taught middle school art in Shreveport, LA, and worked in special education in Chesterfield County, VA, for twenty years. Dewana is survived by her husband of 48 years, James Edward Beamguard, her son, Miles Bradley Beamguard and his wife, Jennifer of Saint Petersburg, FL, her daughter, Allison Leigh Fulk and her husband, Mike, of Falls Church, VA, her granddaughter, Avery Ashton Hammon of Powhatan, VA, her grandsons, Camden Joseph Beamguard and Cooper Reed Beamguard of Saint Petersburg, FL, and her sister, Sandra Ann Upshaw Gifford of Henderson, NV. The family will receive friends in the Christian Family Life Center of Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church in Midlothian, VA, from 5-8PM on Wednesday, June 22, 2016. A graveside service will be held at Bethany Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church Cemetery near Clover, SC, at 11AM on Friday, June 24, 2016. Visitation with family and friends will follow in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church in Clover. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shiners Hospital in care of ACCA Shrine Center, 1712 Bellevue Avenue, Richmond, VA, 23227. M. L. Ford& Sons Funeral Home in Clover, SC, is serving the family of Mrs. Beamguard.

Carothers, Sandra J. - Rock Hill  
Mrs. Sandra Carothers passed away on Friday, May 27, 2016 at Rock Hill Post Acute Care. She was a member of Boyd Hill Baptist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She leaves to cherish her memories: son Gary Carothers (Iesha) of Charlotte NC, daughter Kim Brown (Tyrone) of Charlotte NC, husband Louis Carothers of Rock Hill SC, brothers Wade Parker (Donna) and Larry Parker both of Rock Hill SC, uncle Melvin Ross Jr. (Lula) of Rock Hill SC; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation for Mrs. Carothers will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Parker Funeral Home from 6 to pm. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Boyd Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Barber Memorial Cemetery. Parker Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Powers, Louis Terrance - Great Falls  
Mr. Louis Terrance Powers, 59, died Sunday, May 29, 2016 at his home. The funeral service will be 3:00 Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Great Falls with Rev. Brian Hovis officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 3:00 PM Wednesday in the church sanctuary. The interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Born October 23, 1956 in Chester, SC, Mr. Powers was a son of the late Edward Carson Powers, Sr. and Dorothy Louise Elizabeth Moak. He was a graduate of Great Falls High School and formerly employed with Bowater Construction Company. He was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by a brother, Edward Carson Powers, Jr. (Marilynn) of Great Falls; two sisters, Cindy P. Ford (Wayne) of St. Matthews, SC and Teresa P. Sowell (Billy) of Lancaster, SC; two nephews, Timothy Ford and Jeffrey Powers; five nieces, Jennifer P. Evans, Paula F. Crider, Kristie F. Tinsley, Sheri S. Hammond and Stephanie Sowell and ten great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Samuel Edward Powers and Hettie Blanche Hammond Powers and his maternal grandparents, Jacob James Moak and Sara Elizabeth Elkins Moak. Roy Charles Thomas, 61, of 2408 Josh's Ct., died Sunday, May 29, 2016, at Piedmont Medical Center. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, at Forest Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at Whitesell Funeral Home. Born in New Jersey, Roy was the son of Freda Ray Thomas and the late Roy Junior Thomas. He was a past employee of Austin Insulation and enjoyed fishing, watching football, and muscle cars. He also loved his family. He is survived by his mother, Freda Ray Thomas; a brother, Joe Thomas; five sisters, Carol Bagwell, Deana Griggs (Joel), Rosie Brooks (Mark), Donna Ramsey (Steve), and Ronda Pulsifer (John).
