Floyd Edward Helms Sr.

Floyd Helms Sr.ROCK HILL - Mr. Floyd Edward Helms Sr., 93, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at his home. The funeral service will be 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, with the Revs. Tony Slawson and Lewis Vehaun officiating. Burial will be in Laurelwood Cemetery. Born in Raleigh, N.C., Mr. Helms was a son of the late Edward Helms and the late Fronie Eudy Helms. He was a retired U.S. Army veteran serving during WWII and the Korean War for a combined service of 22 years. He also worked in the construction of bridges. He was a member of the Rock Hill Masonic Lodge #111 and #385, the Hejaz Shriners and the York Rite. He was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen B. Helms; his sons, Floyd Ed Helms Jr. and Lester Raymond Helms; his brother, Joseph Helms; and his sister, Dorothy Taylor. Surviving are his wife, Bertha Hudson Bishop Helms; his son, Ralph David Helms Sr. of Rock Hill; his stepson, Barney "Dan" Bishop III of Rock Hill; his sister, Pauline Pogue of Fairview, N.C., and Agnes Lansing of Old Fort, N.C.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. (prior to service) on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill. Masonic Rites will be rendered at 12:30 p.m. Memorials may be made in Mr. Helms' name to Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, 950 W. Faris St., Greenville, SC 29605.
