Lester Rainey PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Mr. Lester L. Rainey, formerly of Rock Hill, S.C., passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at his home. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be 3 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2014, at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel, 355 East White Street, Rock Hill, SC 29730, with the Rev. Eddie Williams officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, prior to the service, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Inurnment, with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy and The American Legion Honor Guard, will follow at Grandview Memorial ParkS. Cherry Road. A native of York County, Lester was the son of the late Sadie Helms and Robert Brown Rainey and the widower of Carrie S. Rainey, to whom he was married for 49 years. Lester was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and retired from J. P. Stevens where he was employed as a mechanic in the spinning department for over 40 years. He was a life member of the The American Legion and The Veterans of Foreign Wars. In his younger years, Lester enjoyed hunting and fishing whenever time would allow. Surviving are his five children, Shelli Rainey and Lester L. "Lannie" Rainey Jr. of the home, Deborah Hayes of Fort Lawn, S.C., Michael F.
