David Evers ROCK HILL - Mr. David Allen Evers, 77, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, S.C. Born in Chicago Heights, Ill., on Jan. 7, 1936, he was the eighth child of William John and Jennie DeVries Evers. David's parents and siblings have preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Rebecca Barr Evers. They moved to Rock Hill in 1995. David worked in the Chicago steel mills to pay for his architectural degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. During a summer strike at the mills, he was drafted and served two and a half years in the Army just prior to the escalation of the Vietnam War. Once he was discharged, he completed his degree with a fifth-year option in structural engineering. David worked as an architect for several firms but for the last 20 years of his career, he was the vice president of Robert G. Lyon and Associates in Chicago. All of his life he enjoyed working with his hands and outdoor sports such as fishing the Boundary Waters of Minnesota, skiing, white-water canoeing and long-distance bicycling. He remodeled two homes and built or restored furniture for those homes. However his greatest passion was designing and creating original stain glass art to hang in their homes. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at the Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church. Donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Heifer International, or Noah's Wish http://www.noahswish.org/.
