Ernest Henry AndersonROCK HILL - Mr. Ernest Henry Anderson, 92, husband of Elva H. Anderson, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at Willow Brook Court at Park Pointe Village, following a short illness. Funeral services for Mr. Anderson will be 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at Neely's Creek Presbyterian Church, 974 Neelys Creek Road, with the Rev. Jan Senneker officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Anderson was born on May 28, 1921, in Rock Hill and was the son of the late Matthew Decatur "Dick" Anderson and Annie Mae Thomasson Anderson. Mr. Anderson's career in the automobile business started before his service in World War II and progressed quickly and after his honorable discharge in 1945 with the rank of corporal in the U.S. Army Air Corps. For many years he was associated with Harvey Motors, winning many awards as a top salesman. In the early 1950s, he joined with Clarence Cook to form Anderson and Cook Motors, Inc. In the mid 1960s, he and Mr. Cook dissolved their partnership and Mr. Anderson established Anderson Motors. In 1982 he was appointed to a two-year term on the Small Business Association Region IV-Columbia Advisory Council. During South Carolina Governor Richard Riley's two terms of office, Mr. Anderson was one of the "Committee of 100" (advisory group). He was a member of the Elks Club, the Moose Club and the American Legion. In 2006, the Rock Hill Moose Lodge on Ebinport Road honored him as the oldest living charter member of the local lodge. Mr. Anderson was a lifetime member of Neely's Creek ARP Church, serving as a former deacon. Additional survivors include his son, Jerry B. Anderson (Jackie) of Rock Hill; his daughter, Karen A. Gravely (Steve) of Pickens, S.C., his daughter, Deborah A. Harding (Scott) of Pflugerville, Texas; his step-son, Mark Hughes (Jane) of Rock Hill; his stepdaughter, Dianne Gregor (Robert) of Zilienople, Pa., and step-daughter-in-law, Kathy Hughes of Rock Hill; his 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Lewis Anderson; his son, Ernest Henry "Buddy" Anderson Jr.; and his stepson, Michael Gordon Hughes. Henry was the last of his siblings.
