Cmdr. Harold Navayne Simpson (Ret.)ROCK HILL - Cmdr. Harold Navayne Simpson, 85, of 1335 Falls Road, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, S.C. A graveside service for Cmdr. Simpson will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at Grandview Memorial Park-Cherry Road, with the Rev. Larry Gregory officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Navy and the American Legion Frank Roach Post 34. Born in Memphis, Tenn., Cmdr. Simpson was the son of the late Richard and Minnie Mitchell Simpson. Cmdr. Simpson served six years in the U.S. Navy and had over 40 years in the U.S. Naval Reserve. During his Navy career, he taught chemistry at the U.S. Naval Academy and also taught at Texas A&M University, Texas Woman's University and at Winthrop University. He was also a member of the American Legion. Cmdr. Simpson is survived by his wife, Mary Hodge Simpson; his sons, Doug Simpson and wife, Marcia of Las Vegas, Nev., Gary Simpson of Marquette, Mich., and Ricky Simpson of Rock Hill; his grandchildren, Nakoma Pishco, Shankari Fits, Mikhail Simpson, Matthew Simpson, Rachel Simpson, Heather Simpson, Kelsey Simpson and Rebecca Simpson; his three great-grandchildren; and his nephew, Bobby Simpson. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 pm. Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, S.C., and other times at the home.
