Ret. Capt. Edward Grierson Wade

LAKE WYLIE - Ret. Capt. Edward Grierson Wade, husband of Priscilla Malpass Wade of Lake Wylie, S.C., died on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013. He was born Dec. 30, 1933, in Atlanta, Ga., to the late Edward Hodges and Mary Grierson Wade. He was predeceased by his brother, Andrew Lee Wade.
He attended Plant High School in Tampa, Fla., and the University of Florida where he was a brother of Sigma Nu Fraternity.
Edward served his country in the Korean Conflict as a member of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Infantry Advanced Marksmanship Unit, a passion he pursued throughout his life. He was a member of the Charlotte Rifle & Pistol Club, Mecklenburg Wildlife and Long Creek Gun Club.
His flying career began at JP Stevens Aviation and continued to Piedmont Airlines prior to their merger with US Airways. He retired from US Airways after 25 years of service.
In addition to his wife of 42 years, he is survived by sister, Mary Jane St. Clair of Tampa,; sister-in-law, Sandra Malpass Pierce of Jacksonville; and nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are a son, Edward G. Wade Jr. and daughter, Susan Wade Marlow from an earlier marriage, in Tampa.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at the River Hills Country Club.
