Vernissa Gourdine Pharr ROCK HILL - Vernissa Gourdine Pharr was born in Bronx Lebanon Hospital, Bronx, N.Y., on Oct. 9, 1967, the first-born daughter of Bishop William Gourdine and Marian Marie Gourdine. She departed this life on June 8, 2014. Vernissa graduated from Mount Vernon High School, Mt. Vernon, N.Y., in June 1986. She earned an Associates Degree from Westchester Community College, White Plains, N.Y., in 1988. She continued on to serve as a proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps from 1988-1992. Vernissa married Shun O'Vaughn Pharr on Nov. 10, 2001, and together they resided in Rock Hill, S.C. Vernissa worshiped at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Rock Hill, S.C. She enjoyed reading, sewing, crafts and most of all, spending time with family and friends. Vernissa leaves to cherish her beautiful life, her parents, Bishop William Gourdine and Marian Marie Gourdine of Varnville, S.C.; her mother-in-law, Georgia E Pharr of Charlotte, N.C.; her siblings, Sarah Gourdine O'Banner (Arthur O'Banner) of Rock Hill, S.C., Wanda Gourdine Coates (Alan Coates) of Rock Hill, S.C.; her close cousins, Gary L. Gourdine (Christine Gourdine) of the Bronx, N.Y., Andre L. Gourdine (April Gourdine) of Matthews, N.C., and Kia L. Gourdine of Charlotte, N.C.; a special aunt, Carrie E. Gourdine of Fayetteville, N.C.; her god-siblings, Yolanda Delaney of Gastonia, N.C., Derrick Bagby of Bristow, Va., and Marsha Thompson of Conyers, Ga.; in addition to her loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends whom she loved dearly. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Ebenezer Baptist Church.
