Captain Benjamin MooreINDIAN LAND - Captain Benjamin "Ben" Odell Moore, 44, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013. He was born Dec. 5, 1968, in Rock Hill, S.C., the son of Barry Moore and Patsy Ashley Moore and was the husband of Teresa Merritt Moore. Mr. Moore began his career in 1987 at the Indian Land Volunteer Fire Department where he served in various positions including being elected chief. In 1994, he joined the Charlotte Fire Department and in June of 2010, he was promoted to captain and was assigned to Ladder 26-B Shift. Ben also currently held the position of lieutenant at the Indian Land Volunteer Fire Department where he was nominated as Fire Fighter of the Year in 2012. Ben was also a member of Osceola United Methodist Church and the American Paint Horse Association. Captain Moore is survived by his wife, Teresa Merritt Moore of the home; his parents, Barry and Patsy Moore of Indian Land; two daughters, Jessica Moore and Natalie Moore, both of the home; a sister, Barrie Ann Marsh and her husband, Jamie of Indian Land; a nephew, Cooper Marsh; and his father-in-law, Tommy Merritt of Indian Land. The Celebration of Life Fire Fighter's Funeral Service for Captain Moore will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at Osceola United Methodist Church, officiated by the Revs. Harry K. Gindhart Jr. and Tai Magette. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family of Mr. Moore will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at Hartley Burgess Funeral Home.
