Carl Edward (Ted) MeltonROCK HILL - Mr. Carl Edward (Ted) Melton, 84, of Rock Hill, S.C., died Thursday, May 22, 2014, surrounded by family at Piedmont Medical Center. A service celebrating his life will be held at 1 p.m. on May 26, at Oakland Baptist Church, with Dr. Bob Shrum officiating. He was born in Camden, S.C., the son of David Levi Melton and Carrie Hinson Melton. He was a graduate of Camden High School and Palmer Business College. Ted served as corpsman in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a State Farm Insurance agent for 36 years. His most valuable work was the time he spent with his family and the community he loved. He served on the Rock Hill School Board for 22 years and was a deacon and Senior High School Sunday School teacher at Oakland Baptist Church where he was an active member since 1959. Ted was an avid Clemson Tiger fan and an IPTAY member for 42 years. He served on the Clemson University Board of Visitors and was a member of the Rock Hill Elks Club. He loved sports, the outdoors and was actively involved in the lives of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ted was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings. Ted is survived by his wife, Doris Perkinson Melton; his children, Kim Hallman of Rock Hill, Kyle Melton (Amy) of Charlotte, N.C., Kerri Hug (Mike) of Alpharetta, Ga., and Kasey Kinsella of Manchester, Vt.; grandchildren, Sadie Kirell (John), Amie Shillinglaw (Steven), Colby Hallman, William Bond, Elizabeth Cochran (Seth), Cara Hallman, Allison Melton, Caroline Bond and Zachary Kinsella; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2014, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel. The family will be at the home of John and Sadie Kirell, 1718 Overbrook Drive, Rock Hill, S.C. Donations in Ted's memory can be made to the Rock Hill School District Foundation, P.O.
