Dewana Upshaw Beamguard, 68, of Powhatan, VA, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond, VA, on Thursday, May 26, 2016. Dewana was the daughter of the late Mary Alice Wingfield Hodson and Miles Berna Upshaw and was preceded in death by her sister, Deanna Upshaw. Dewana was a native of Columbia, LA, and a direct descendant of Captain Edward-Maria Wingfield, the first president and founder of the English colony at Jamestown, VA, in 1607. She was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University, taught middle school art in Shreveport, LA, and worked in special education in Chesterfield County, VA, for twenty years.
Dewana is survived by her husband of 48 years, James Edward Beamguard, her son, Miles Bradley Beamguard and his wife, Jennifer of Saint Petersburg, FL, her daughter, Allison Leigh Fulk and her husband, Mike, of Falls Church, VA, her granddaughter, Avery Ashton Hammon of Powhatan, VA, her grandsons, Camden Joseph Beamguard and Cooper Reed Beamguard of Saint Petersburg, FL, and her sister, Sandra Ann Upshaw Gifford of Henderson, NV.
The family will receive friends in the Christian Family Life Center of Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church in Midlothian, VA, from 5-8PM on Wednesday, June 22, 2016. A graveside service will be held at Bethany Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church Cemetery near Clover, SC, at 11AM on Friday, June 24, 2016. Visitation with family and friends will follow in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church in Clover.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shiners Hospital in care of ACCA Shrine Center, 1712 Bellevue Avenue, Richmond, VA, 23227. M. L. Ford& Sons Funeral Home in Clover, SC, is serving the family of Mrs. Beamguard.
