ROCK HILL - James T. Ellis, 74, of 1127 Manor Close Drive, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Magnolia Manor.

A native of Rock Hill, S.C., Mr. Ellis was born Nov. 15, 1937, son of the late James and Selena Barnes Ellis.

Mr. Ellis was the lead singer for The Trammps. He also worked as a technician for Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia and was a graduate of Emmett Scott High School, Class of 1958. He was a member of Central Church of God in Charlotte, N.C.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Channie Mitchell.

Surviving are his wife, Beverly T. Ellis; a son, James Thomas Ellis III and his wife, Teressa of Philadelphia, Pa.; a daughter, Erika Stinson and her husband, Reggie, of Rock Hill; three brothers, John and his wife, Robbie, and George Robert Ellis, both of Rock Hill and Charles Ellis of Charlotte; one sister, Alice Perry of Rock Hill; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends; and a very special friend, Jay Lindquist and his family.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Ellis will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2012, at Central Church of God in Charlotte. The family is at the home of his brother, John, 1641 Mulberry Circle, Rock Hill.
