
INDIAN LAND - Mr. Robert Daniel Wilson Sr., 91, of Indian Land, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at his home.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at Belair United Methodist Church. The funeral will follow at 3 p.m., with the Revs. Harry Gindhart and Bert Watson officiating and his grandson, Josh Wilson assisting with the eulogy. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Born in Indian Land, Mr. Wilson was a son of the late Robert Marcellus Wilson and Beulah Lee Griffin Wilson. He graduated from Indian Land High School. Robert served under General Patton as a corporal in the U.S. Army, 2nd Armored Division, Hell on Wheels. He drove a Sherman tank across North Africa, Sicily, Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge and Berlin during World War II. He was a retired superintendent from Crowder Construction Co. of Charlotte.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Minnie Mae Wilson; his daughters, Linda Huff (Claude Newton Huff Jr.) of Sevierville, Tenn., Shirley Sexton (Jim S. Sexton Jr.) of Columbia and Lois Leder of Greenville; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Wilson of Indian Land; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Luther Wilson (Barbara) and Olin Wilson (Margaret), all of Indian Land; and sisters, Lib Brown of Monroe, N.C., and Nancy Tillman and Helen Davis (W.T.), all of Indian Land. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Wilson; his son, Robert D. Wilson Jr.; a grandson, Justin Wilson; and two brothers, Douglas Wilson and Jesse Wilson.
