Bob Burriss ANDERSON - Robert Eugene Burriss III, 90, died Sunday, May 4, 2014, at the Rainey Hospice House. Born April 8, 1924, in Anderson, he was the son of Robert E. and Lucy Robertson Burriss. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserve and was a graduate of Washington & Lee University. Mr. Burriss was the longtime owner and operator of the City Seed Store. He was a member of Ruff Masonic Lodge, was a Shriner and served on the Board of Directors for Hospice of the Upstate for a number of years. He was a member of Anderson First Baptist Church for 76 years where he was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class and was a Life Deacon. Survivors include three sons, Andy Burriss and wife, Deborah of Rock Hill, Reid Burriss and wife, Lois of Norwich, Vt., and Sam Burriss and wife, Angela of Anderson; one daughter, Kay McCoy and husband, Chuck of Anderson; eight grandchildren, Drew Burriss and wife, Rebecca, Gregor Burriss, Lucy Burriss, Sam Burriss, Andrea Burriss, Marcus Burriss, Trey McCoy and wife, Angela and Amanda McCoy Boothe and husband, Tim; and three great-grandchildren, Jack Burriss, Coy Boothe and Morgan McCoy. He was twice married, first to the late Phyllis A. Burriss and second to the late Catherine M. Burriss and was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Wyndham Burriss. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. James R. Thomason and the Rev. Josh Hunt. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary. The family is at the home of Kay and Chuck McCoy, 415 Boundary Street, Anderson.
