Mr. Dozier passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013, after a brief battle with cancer. Born Aug. 19, 1946, in Rock Hill, S.C., he was a son of Laura Giles Dozier and the late Roland Purvis Dozier Jr. of Rock Hill. He proudly served our country as a U.S. Marine in Vietnam and was a three-time Purple Heart recipient. He graduated from Ole Miss University, Springfield College and Radford University. His life's work was serving people with special needs and disabilities. He was a champion for the disabled and retired from the S.C. Department of Disabilities in 2008. He was of the Lutheran faith but found a church home at Grace Life. He enjoyed many hobbies, including running, reading and stained glass work. He was most proud of his sons, their wives and his grandchildren. He was happiest with a good book, a fine cigar and a cold beer. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 31 years, Catherine W. Dozier of Columbia; sons, John C. Dozier and his wife, Nicole and Mark L. Dozier and his wife, Megan, all of Jacksonville, N.C.; four grandchildren; brother, Jerry Dozier; and sister, Cyndi Mikell of Rock Hill. The family wishes to thank Dr. Bill Babcock, Dr. Elizabeth Paszkiewiez and a very special nurse, Donna for their compassionate care.
