Harold LucasROCK HILL - Mr. Harold Eugene Lucas, 77, of Rock Hill, S.C., passed away at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House on Sunday, March 30, 2014. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill. A service of remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Calvary Baptist Church, 830 N. Jones Avenue, with the Revs. Reggie Hopkins and Tony Slawson officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Park on Cherry Road. Born in Edgemoor, S.C., Mr. Lucas was a son of the late Philo and Minnie Starnes Lucas. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was retired from Duke Energy. He served as a bailiff for York County Family Court for approximately 12 years. This position was more than a job to Harold; it was a ministry. He valued the friendship of each person in the court system. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He loved the Lord, his church, his wife and his family. His generosity and kindness were an inspiration to all who knew him. He seldom met a stranger and his life demonstrated his integrity. In his retirement years, he became a creative pen maker, sometimes making these pens from deer antlers and other precious woods. The ones to whom these ink pens were given treasure them today. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Peggy Falls Lucas; a son and daughter-in-law, Gene Lucas and wife, Debbie of Rock Hill; a daughter, Joan Lucas and husband, William Avery Lucas of Rock Hill; four grandchildren, Tim Lucas (Kristina) and Seth Lucas (Lauren) of Greenville, S.C., Tanner Lucas and Bailey Lucas of Rock Hill; three great-grandchildren of Greenville, S.C., Caleb, Chloe and Caelyn Lucas; step-grandson, Justin Chenoweth (Sheridan) and step-granddaughter, Kristen Comer (Will); and three step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Tommy Montgomery (Peggy) of Rock Hill, Buddy Montgomery (Linda) of York, S.C., Bobby Montgomery (Joyce) of Gaston, Ala., and Ronald Montgomery of Taylorsville, N.C.; and a sister, Frances Hawkins (Hawk) of Gaston, Ala. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Eugene Lucas and brother, Buford Lucas. The family would like to give a special thank you to Hospice & Community Care for the excellent care they gave Mr. Lucas during his illness. Memorials may be made in Mr. Lucas' name to Calvary Baptist Church, 830 N. Jones Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730 or to Hospice & Community Care, P.O. Box 993, Rock Hill, SC 29731.
