James Leroy Barnes ROCK HILL - Mr. James Leroy Barnes, 88, of 1229 Amelia Avenue, Rock Hill, S.C., (formerly of Boyd Hill Community) departed this life on Thursday, July 31, 2014, at his home. He was born July 30, 1926, in York County to the late Martha Harris Massey and Willie Barnes. James was raised by his grandfather, the late John Barnes. He attended the public schools of York County and worked on the farm before entering the U.S. Navy. He leaves to cherish years of previous memories, his wife, Mamie Lee Barnes; his sons, Leroy Bell (Sharon) of Elizabeth, N.J., James R. Barnes, Michael Barnes, John Barnes, William Barnes and James Walls, of Rock Hill, S.C.; his daughters, Diane Bell of Elizabeth, N.J., and Frenchie Barnes of Oxon Hill, Md.; his sister, Francis Bullock of Washington, D.C.; his brothers, Ernest Massey (Mary) of Catawba, S.C., Ronnie Massey Sr. (Gloria), Hezekiah Massy (Doris) of Catawba, S.C., and Frank Massey (Louise); his brother-in-law, Robert Webb (Cheryl) of Rock Hill, S.C.; grandchildren whom he reared, Willie Leach (Gail), Rodney Kirk (Tonya), Andre Barnes, Mario Barnes (Robin), Dorian Barnes McCullough (Bryan), Kris Barnes, Shaye Pettus and Ariel Barnes of Rock Hill, S.C.; 32 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at Parker Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at Boyd Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. J.T. Barber officiating, the Rev. Dwayne Brown delivering the eulogy and Bishop "Doc" McCoy and Archbishop B.R.Wilson assisting. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial on Cherry Road. Parker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
