John Cassells Elliott WALTERBORO - John Cassells (Johnny) Elliott, 92, died peacefully at the Veterans Victory Home in Walterboro, S.C., on Wednesday, August 13th, 2014. A lifelong resident of Chester, he was born on April 27, 1922. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jerry Weatherford Elliott; his parents, John Alexander Elliott and Minnie Cassells Elliott; and siblings, Lester Elliott, Louise E. Hermann and Francis E. Parker. He is survived by his daughter, Lyn Elliott Gaston and son-in-law, Neely; son, John Russell Elliott; grandchildren, John Neely Gaston, Megan M. Gaston and John Louis Elliott; his brother, Floyd A. Elliott; sister, Betty E. Harrison; and many nieces and nephews. He was an U.S. Army veteran of WW II and saw action at D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. After the War, he attended Clemson College and retired from the S.C. Tax Commission. The loves of his life were his family, friends and raising thoroughbred race horses and beef cattle. Johnny was an active member at First Baptist Church of Chester for 80 years. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 16th, at First Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Chester Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:50 a.m. Saturday in the church social hall, and at the home of Lyn and Neely Gaston at 107 Hillcrest Drive, Chester, S.C.
