Robert William GesellROCK HILL - Mr. Robert William Gesell, 86, of 1915 Ebenezer Road, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2013, at White Oak Manor in Rock Hill, S.C. A funeral mass and interment will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Saint Philip Neri Catholic Church, 292 Munn Road, Fort Mill, S.C., with Father John Giuliani, CO. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. Mr. Gesell was born in Milwaukee, Wis., and was the son of the late William R. and Edna Genrich Gesell. He was a member of Saint Philip Neri Catholic Church and retired from General Motors as an aerospace engineer. He was a graduate of Marquette High School and Marquette Univer-sity. He also served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He stayed on as a reservist during which the U.S. Army Air Force became the United States Air Force in 1947. Mr. Gesell stayed in the USAF reserve until October 1952, at which point he was honorably discharged. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gesell was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Schoemann Gesell; his son, Joseph M. Gesell and his sister, Marilyn Harris. Mr. Gesell is survived by his sons, Peter W. Gesell of Lake Forest, Ill., Robert J. Gesell of Indian Land, S.C., William G. Gesell of North Hollywood, Calif., and James F. Gesell of Rock Hill; his daughters, Mary M. Liaghat, Catherine G. Williams and Patricia A. Gesell, all of Rock Hill and Ann G. Stern of Los Angles, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
