Gretchen (Moore) Cooke Obituary
Gretchen Moore Cooke, of Annapolis, Maryland passed away at her home Aug. 14, 2016, surrounded by her family. Gretchen was born in Richmond, Virginia Nov. 14, 1946. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Dr. Anthony Cooke, son Aaron Cooke and wife Robin, daughter Jennifer Cooke-Rinehart and husband Chris and their daughter Isabella, son Adrian Cooke and wife Jessica and their daughters Kendal and Kyleigh. Also surviving are her twin sister Nancy Watts and her son Chris Merhige, sister Elisabeth Usry, brother James Thomas Moore III, and brother John Roger Tyler Moore. In addition to being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Gretchen was a scholar, receiving both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Ancient Studies from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). She was passionate about ancient history, performing research into Classical Greek and Italian archaeological periods and participated in several field research trips to Greece and Italy with the UMBC Ancient Studies faculty and students. She also loved to write, and published multiple historical fiction titles under the pseudonym G. Penn and a memoir of her experiences as a caregiver to her daughter Jennifer, who was born with a chronic medical condition, under her own name.
