Brettia Arphine Egerton was born November 10, 1966 in Durham, North Carolina. She was the younger of two children issued to the union of Clarke Alston Egerton, Jr. and Johnsie Davis Egerton. On February 17, 2018, she exchanged her earthly life for life eternal.

Brettia received her early education in the Durham County Public School System and was a proud graduate of the Hillside High School class of 1984, where she was a member of both the marching and symphonic bands and several scholastic honor societies graduating third in her class. Brettia went on to receive her Bachelor of Science degree from the esteemed Kenan-Flagler School of Business - University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and earned her Master of Business Administration (Marketing) degree from Clark Atlanta University.

She secured Certified Internal Auditor and Certified Fraud Examiner designations. Brettia also held distinguished memberships in the National Black MBA Association, National Black Association of Accountants, Alumni Council – UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. - Marietta-Roswell Alumnae Chapter (Metro Atlanta, GA).

She is survived by her parents, Clarke and Johnsie Egerton; brother, Clarke Egerton, III; niece, Annisianna Egerton; sister-in-law, Terri Egerton of Durham; aunt, Portia Barnes; cousins Ivan and Lynnette Barnes of Warrenton, NC ; devoted and loyal best friend, Sheryl Clark of Atlanta; the UNC Spring 1987 pledge class of Delta Sigma Theta; and a host of other beloved relatives and friends.

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at White Rock Baptist Church, 3400 Fayetteville St., Durham, NC 27707. Delta Sigma Theta will be conducting the Omega Omega ceremony at the church at 12:30 p.m. This ceremony is open to the public. Burial will immediately follow in the Beechwood Cemetery.

Scarborough & Hargett Celebration of Life Center, Inc., 309 North Queen Street, Durham, NC 27701, has the honor of serving the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the White Rock Baptist Church Child Development Center.
